Faculty participate in technology workshops as part of the Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers Today (PT3) grant

Research Agenda: For over 30 years I have been involved in designing, implementing, researching and redesigning learning environments through research, collaboration, and using the affordances of technology to support student-centered learning.
Current Research: Lead researcher on mathematics and STEM projects designed to increase the capacity of organizations, teachers, and learners to close the opportunity gap for students in high need schools. Current research and publications relate to Math Snacks, MC2,  LIFT, and the work of our STEM Outreach and Research group, as well as new projects involving Learning Design and Technology.

Research Journey:
1972- 1984- Seattle Public Schools- parent involvement specialist (Title II grant for parents and students), K-8th Mathematics Specialist, Title I Administrator.Engaged in research and publications with teachers on the use of technology for literacy, English Language Learners and problem-solving.
1986- 1993 – Technology Coordinator, San Diego County Office and Assistant Professor, Educational Technology, Cal State San Marcos, and Alliance International University. Dissertation (1987); The Effect of three different types of computer learning environments on the Cognitive Skills of 4th Grade Students. Research and publications on using technology for learning.Taught International Educators in Europe.
1993-2004 – Assistant, Associate and Full Professor, Learning Technologies, Curriculum and Instruction, NMSU. Increased integration of technology in teacher education and graduate programs. Wrote Teaching with Technology, Technology and English Language Learners, as well as books for teachers. Wrote and directed multiple grants in partnership with schools and teachers including: Nuestra Tierra, La Clave para Mejorar, Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Teach Technology (PT3) and other projects.
2004-2013– Associate Dean for Research, College of Education, NMSU. Increased funding to $10 million per year in grants. Developed Grant Writing Resources for College of Education. Continued my own research (25%) primarily in STEM and Mathematics Education, wrote book with Dr. Susan Brown on Lesson Study: Increasing the Achievement of Diverse Students, and wrote, received, and worked on National Science Foundation Grants, The Gadsden Mathematics Initiative (GMI), Scaling Up Mathematics Achievement (SUMA), Leadership Institute For Teachers (LIFT), and Math Snacks: Addressing Gaps in Conceptual Mathematics. Formed Research and Evaluation Group to support projects.
2013- Returned to Faculty Position as part of team for Learning Design and Technology while continuing to support STEM Outreach and Research, mentor new career faculty, and support grant writing.
