The Master of Arts in Teaching (MATCHG) with an emphasis in Spanish is intended to support Spanish language instructors in a variety of settings (e.g., middle schools, high schools, community colleges, community services and the private sector). Program participants take 18 hours of graduate Spanish coursework, and 15 hours of graduate Education classes. The MATCHG does NOT lead to professional licensure for teaching in public school systems. The 33 hours required for the Master of Arts in Teaching degree can be completed in two years or less, either on-campus at New Mexico State University or through Distance Education. Course work is delivered off-campus through distance education technology and through Study Abroad classes. Participants in the program may choose to study on-campus only, uniquely through Distance Education, or select a mix of the two delivery methods.

These courses are taught by professors in the Department of Languages & Linguistics, either on-campus or through Distance Education. The participants must take a minimum of two classes in Spanish linguistics and two classes in Spanish language literature; two classes are electives. Spanish courses will be selected in consultation with the Master of Arts in Teaching advisor in the Department of Languages and Linguistics.
(15 credits, either on-campus or on-line)
These courses are offered online throughout the academic year, and are also offered on-campus. These classes represent the required core for the MAT programs in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Required Education Courses:
