The Bobcat Classroom is the NMSU School for Young Children’s Preschool program. The Bobcat classroom is a full day program for children who are ages three and a half years to five years old.
The program is inspired by the pre-primary schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, which are considered some of the best in the world. Children are encouraged to explore the world around them to create and test hypotheses as well as build relationships with other children and the teachers. The children’s interests are the foundation for the curriculum, with the teachers as co-constructors of learning. The children are able to express themselves through music, dramatic play, art, and movement activities. Families are a vital part of the learning philosophy of the Reggio Emilia Approach; parents are viewed as partners in the education of their child are respected as the child’s first teacher.
Children are served breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day. The Preschool program is tuition based along with state childcare assistance, which is also accepted.
