    What is the Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning?

    The Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning is 100% online. This certificate is for professionals in business, government, education, or other settings who want to develop their knowledge and skills in online/blended instructional design. The certificate uses technology-based environments to actively engage students in designing formal educational projects that meet professional objectives.

    Can the certificate program be taken as part of a Master’s degree program? Doctoral program?

    Current NMSU graduate students can take this certificate program. However, the decision about if and how courses factor into a degree plan is decided by the department issuing the graduate degree. It’s highly recommended you meet with your graduate advisor and this program’s advisor before starting the certificate program. See the Application information section for additional information.

    What is required to complete the certificate program*?

    Once admitted into the program, you must:

    • Complete all courses with a B or higher.
    • Maintain a 3.0 GPA.

     

    If you are in a graduate program, all certificate courses must be taken during your study program.

    This program is 100% online. Therefore, if you are an international student with specific face-to-face courses, this is not a suitable program to meet your curriculum needs and educational requirements.

    Courses

    The Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning consists of four three-credit courses, which can be currently taken in as little as 1 year.

    Students should consult with a program advisor prior to taking the courses. After completing the four EDLT courses, students may apply must apply for the Graduate Certificate upon completion and passing of these courses. This is not a teaching license or an endorsement.

    If you are in a graduate program, all certificate courses must be taken during your study program.

    Technology

    The Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning requires you to have a reliable, up-to-date computer. Most computers purchased within the last two years should be sufficient. You will also need administrative access to your computer to download and install applications from the internet.

    Connectivity

    A reliable high-speed internet connection will be needed to access course materials and to participate in synchronous events.

    Prerequisites

    • Eligibility for admission to the Graduate School.
    • Admission to NMSU Graduate School

    Review and Acceptance

    Acceptance to the program will be based on:

    1. After reviewing your completed Graduate School Application, an advisor will contact you via email regarding your status. Only completed applications will be reviewed.
    2. Successful admission to the NMSU Graduate School. The Graduate School will send you a letter informing you of your status.

    How to Apply

    NOTE: There are separate applications for the Masters in Education in Educational Design with Learning Technologies and the Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching & Learning. To be admitted into both programs, you will need to complete individual applications for each program.

    The Application Process is currently as follows:

    1. Information and documents you will need when applying:
      • Credit card information for the application fee payment
      • Electronic copies of unofficial transcripts and if international certified English translated copy
      • One (1) letter of recommendation
    2. Go to: Graduate School: How to Apply
    3. Lower right button- Apply to Graduate School.
    4. Create Account
    5. Fill out Personal and Residency information.
    6. When you get to the Graduate Enrollment Information page, select:
      • Starting Semester: Summer 2021 or Fall 2021
      • Campus: This depends on if you are a Las Cruces or NMSU-Online Campus student, choose for your type, and work with the program coordinators if needed for course registration. Of note, if you are only taking the graduate certificate, you need to apply to the NMSU Online campus.
      • Enrollment Status: choose the applicable option
      • Degree: Certificate (Graduate)
      • Online Intended Major: Online Teaching and Learning Technologies
    • Secondary Contact Information
    • Academic Information is required, including unofficial transcripts
