The College of Education’s School of Teacher Preparation, Administration and Leadership at New Mexico State University offers an Elementary and a Secondary Teacher Education Program for individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree. The program is designed to meet the professional education course requirements for teacher licensure as a part of a Master of Arts in Education degree program.
A full time student in this program typically completes in 2-‐3 years. All coursework must be completed before the final student teaching semester.

- Admission to the NMSU Graduate School - Online Application
- Acceptance and enrollment in the TPAL MA program;

- Admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP)

- Before TEP is submitted, candidate must pass the Praxis CORE Academic Skills exams (Reading, Writing, and Math)
- Submit TEP portfolio to College (dates to be announced – 3rd Friday of September for Fall, 3rd Friday of February for Spring).
- Complete all requirements for a Teaching Field in Secondary Education (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies)
- Transcripts will be evaluated for teaching field deficiencies at the request of your advisor

- Submission Deadlines: First Friday in March for the Fall semester (by 3:00 pm); First Friday in October for the Spring semester (by 3:00pm)
- Complete Student Teaching in the final semester of the program
- Take EDUC 509 and EDUC 510 concurrently (16-week student teaching internship and seminar)
- Before completing student teaching, candidate must pass the Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7-12 portion of the Praxis assessments.
